Wildcrafting is becoming a lost art...
Harvesting that which grows in the wild just doesn't happen like it should anymore. Mostly because people have forgotten how. It doesn't take much more than the guts to pick a clover and put it into your mouth, chew and swallow to restart this skill. Go to your grandparents or parents and ask them about plants they might have harvested from the wild where they grew up, betcha one of them will arm you with the knowledge of at least one plant you can go outside and eat.
Weeds or gourmet greens?Shown above are called creasy greens, found within the weeds of your lawn, and added to salads just like water cress. These along with dandelion greens are often eradicated from lawns when they should be cultivated for food. They are among many plants we have become ignorant of. Now it is not uncommon to find dandelion greens in the grocery alongside collards and radiccio. Still we are so reluctant to put things found on the ground into our mouths that we use pesticides to kill the weeds in our lawn and spend more money to buy them in the store. Feeling foolish yet? Well I do...
