Harvesting animals in the wild...

If the thought of killing and butchering bambi makes you shudder, you're not alone.  Although in our culture killing something in the backyard seems brutish and obscene, some of the healthiest meat out there is the nuisance animal eating the garden you are trying so hard to grow.   These animals are healthy, happy, woods and pasture raised, and delicious.  I never thought that shooting and processing a deer myself would be a remote possibility, but after seeing my husband do it over and over, decided to try it.   I took a doe 7 am opening day, the shot was clean and dropped the animal instantly. (above) This was technically my second deer, the first had been a doe that caught my eye after I had gotten ready for a shopping trip, since I didn't have my camo on I just don't count it...

Our son Kyle has become quite the hunter, this 10 point buck was harvested on Thanksgiving morning!

If done right these animals harvested from the wild provide the best nutrition and live the happiest of lives.  This bear was taken with a kill permit gotten from DNR after it ate two of our sheep.  RIP Laverne and Shirley...
